The Tuesday after Memorial Day was fun-filled! It started out bright and early with Muffins With Mom at Harrison's school. Man, we look tired. It started at 6:45 and after a long weekend it was tough to get up that early! But, I loved getting to have breakfast with my boy. After our muffins we hit up the end of the year book fair -- buy one get one free books -- and stocked up on some great books for summer!
I met up with Matt to grab Charlotte as he dropped off Madeleine at school and then we made our morning Sonic run :) before heading back to Harrison's school for the spelling bee. Harrison is an excellent, advanced reader so I thought he'd have a pretty good chance at winning (seriously, he tested at an 8th grade reading level!).We got there a little early, but the kids were already in their places. There were 12 kids -- one from each 1st and 2nd grade class that had won their class spelling bee. We told Harrison that no matter what happens, we are already so proud of him because he won his class spelling bee.
The classes started filing in and Harrison's teacher had had his class make signs for him. They said things like "Go Harrison" or "Harrison's Awesome." How cute is that?!
The first round was really easy. 2 kids didn't make the second round. The 3rd round knocked out all but 5 kids. Those 5 survived until the 4th round, when 3 of them misspelled their words. So, going into the last round it was just Harrison & one other boy. Harrison seemed to gain more and more confidence with each round, but I got more and more nervous!
The other little boy misspelled his word, so it was Harrison's turn. His word was "explode" which he got right! Then he had to spell one more word right to actually win the 7th round. His word was "mayor" and he rocked it! When their principal said he was the winner, he whole class jumped up and cheered!
He got a trophy. This is his first trophy and his is so proud of it! He also got a medal for winning! He represented Mrs. Foster's class well.
This was just the perfect ending to what has been an absolutely wonderful year. Harrison has had an unforgettable year with Mrs. Foster and I'm not sure what he'll do without her next year -- she will certainly be missed by this boy!
I figured a win like this deserves a treat so we checked him out for the rest of the day. We went and played at the mall then had lunch there. I don't know why, but my kids think that lunch at the mall is the best thing ever. :)
Such a fun day! And a great way to kick off the last week of school!
