Snowfall

I'm finally getting around to looking at the pictures of snowfall -- now that warmer weather has arrived! Our biggest snowfall came in early february with record setting amounts of snow. The "official" reading at our house was 16 inches....which is actually much less than at a lot of our friends houses. However, it was still more snow that I'd ever seen! And, with record setting low temps of negative 17 degrees it stuck around for a few days! The morning that it said -17, I actually thought that the weather service was reporting wrong.

The kids loved playing in the snow. We had to be careful about how long we let them out, since it was so cold! They amazed me with how much fun they had out there, even with the crazy cold temps.

The picture was taken the first morning when we woke up to the snow. It was coming down so hard that we couldn't see the houses behind us!

Awhile later...
Eventually the picnic table became totally covered! Then the kids (all of them -- even the biggest one of all!) headed out to play.

Harrison finally figured out that the best way to get around was to follow in the path Matt was making. I love how his jeans are packed with snow!
Madeleine doing a little "snow diving" off the picnic table.

As soon as he saw how much snow we'd gotten, Matt's main mission became to build a snow tunnel. He worked on it for a long time & was so proud of his accomplishment....until we looked a few houses down and saw theirs. It was amazing! But, Matt's was good too & Harrison stuck it out to the bitter (cold) end to be able to crawl through it!

Matt going in...
....and coming out.
Harrison going in....
....and coming out!
This snow made out world here absolutely breathtaking! Everything was covered in snow and the first day it pretty much stayed unspoiled. It was too cold & wet to really enjoy playing in it. And, even when we did, it was snowing so much that it just filled in our tracks.

The next morning we woke up to such a beautiful sight! The trees were covered in snow and it was white everywhere!

I'm not sure how, but our pond out back froze like this. It was so cool to look at!

It is beautiful how the pond froze like that. I've never in my life done a snow tunnel. That sounds like so much fun! Matt put his days off of work to good use! :)
